Mellano & Company, a cut flower farm is seeking a part-time drone applicator pilot for pest scouting and chemical applications. The Pilot will work with the growers to schedule and execute pesticide applications, scouting, and mapping via drone. Pilot must have a DPR JPC (Journeyman Pilot certificate) and a QAL (Qualified Applicator License) upon hiring. Pilot must be comfortable with handling a wide range of materials including fertilizers and pesticides.
Work Schedule:
This position requires a dependable self-starter who is willing to begin work early in the morning, can operate effectively without direct supervision, and is capable of being a part of a team to complete tasks. Additionally, during the growing season, night applications may be necessary.
Duties:
- Operate drones to support various agricultural actives, such as planning seed, monitoring crop health, and applying fertilizers or pesticides.
- Gather data through drone flights and analyzing it to provide information about crop management and yield optimization to Growing team.
- Oversee the maintenance of drone and spray equipment and troubleshooting any technical issues that arise.
- Ensure all drone operations comply with relevant regulations and safety standards.
- Continuously seek ways to improve drone technology and its application in agriculture to enhance productivity and sustainability.
Requirements:
- Be at least 18 + years of age.
- 1+ years of Agricultural experience preferred.
- 2+ years of experience operating drones or 250 hours drone flight log.
- Active FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
- Have or qualify for and obtain an FAA Class II(2nd) medical certificate.
- Operate agricultural spray drones following FAA regulations and company guidelines
- Conduct pre-flight checks to ensure the proper functioning of the drone and its spraying equipment
- Safely handle, mix, and load pesticide and fertilizer chemicals according to label directions and work orders.
- Collaborate with agricultural professionals to plan and execute precise pesticide and fertilizer applications based on crop needs and growth stages
- Maintain and troubleshoot drone and spray equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime
- Monitor weather conditions and other factors that may affect drone operations, making informed decisions to ensure safety and effectiveness
- Keep detailed records of flights, applications, and equipment maintenance for compliance and reporting purposes
- Ability to manually take off and land drone in a controlled fashion.
- Understand the basic parts, functions, and limitations of the drone and spray equipment.
Work Environment
- This job operates in an outdoor setting. This role routinely uses drone and spray equipment.
- Exposure to dust, dirt, various plant materials.
Physical Demands:
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Able to climb and descend stairs and walk on uneven ground.
- Able to withstand moderate changes in temperature.
- Ability to work outdoors to conduct field inspections in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Must wear appropriate close toe shoes; non-slip-resistant shoes needed in the coolers.
Compensation:
Salary range $35-$50 per hour for part-time employees. This range is estimated for a Drone Applicator Pilot.
